Donovan’s Road to Success: CDL Certification

When Donovan McCary joined Christensen’s warehouse team in 2021, he was a pro on the forklift, a champ in the yard, and an all-around team player. But as he watched fuel truck drivers hit the road each day, one thought kept creeping in: What’s stopping me from being behind the wheel?

That question didn’t stay parked for long. By 2024, Donovan turned his ambition into action with help from Christensen’s Education Tuition Assistance Program (ETAP).

I’d see the drivers heading out every day and think, ‘I could do that.’ Christensen gave me the tools, and I knew it was time to get after it.

Shifting Into High Gear

Here’s how Donovan turned his dream into reality:

  • 160 hours of CDL training: Paid in full.
  • 16-hour Hazmat certification: Covered 100%.
  • Cheer squad included: Managers, mentors, and teammates who supported him every step of the way.

By November 2024, Donovan earned his CDL and Hazmat certifications, ready to take his career to the next level.

Celebrating Success

When Donovan completed his training, Pasco Plant Manager Randy Brouwer fired up the grill for a team BBQ. Why? Because Randy has been in Donovan’s boots. As a fellow ETAP graduate, Randy knows how challenging it is to juggle work and study and how rewarding it can be.
